Ancestral Acres Farm & Garden is a small community-oriented farm founded by Mayam Garris (they/them) and based in present-day Albuquerque, NM. With the support of their partner Nova (they/them), through BIPOC stewardship, and in kinship with queer and trans folks, Mayam aims to grow food for community redistribution and to save seeds on Tiwa lands for future farming projects. Their goal is to create physical wellness and healing space for their community to nourish their spirits, and create avenues towards much-needed food sovereignty for their neighbors, all while providing food and nourishment for one another.
As a member of Seeding Sovereignty, Mayam supports Indigenous-led collective work to radicalize and disrupt colonized spaces through land, body, and food sovereignty work, and by centering community building and cultural preservation. By investing in Indigenous folks and communities of the global majority, Mayam envisions and moves towards collective liberation.
